In the two years since I entered my university, I experienced and discovered a lot of important things that helped me grow and understand myself as a person. The number of experiences and discoveries is countless, but among these, I want to talk about one particular interest: English language movies. The reason why I became interested in English language movies was because I was encouraged to watch certain movies recommended by an English classmate.

There are two reasons why I enjoy watching English movies. First of all, I can know worlds that I haven’t known before. Of course, movies have many genres, but when I watched movies categorized in unknown genres, I realized that there are a lot of amazing things in this world, and so the range of subjects I have become interested in has is expanded suddenly and unexpectedly. Moreover, through many of the touching stories in the movies and having experienced many kinds of emotions from them, I came to be able to think from different perspectives more than before. So, by watching English movies, my life has certainly become enriched.

Secondly, of course, English movies help with English study. Generally, I’m the type of person who studies language through movies. By watching movies, I think that I can learn more casual English than I can through textbooks. Also, watching my favorite English movies without subtitles helps with listening practice. Recently, I’ve been trying to read English books that movies were based on. Sometimes, these original books are different from the movies, so I can enjoy them as a different form of not only entertainment but learning from the movies.

For these reasons, I have now become completely obsessed with watching movies and owing to it, I could develop my language and develop as a human. I will be able to see and discover more new things with this hobby throughout my whole life. I’d like to say thank you to my classmate who introduced me to this wonderful experience!

　大学に入学してからの二年間で、私は多くのものに出会った。授業を通して得た知識や友達など、その数は数え始めるときりがないが、その中の一つとして映画鑑賞という趣味が挙げられる。映画に興味を持つようになったのは、英語の授業でクラスメイトに勧められた映画を見たことがきっかけであった。
　私が映画に魅力を感じる理由は大きく分けて二つある。一つ目は、映画を通して自分の知らない世界を知ることができる点にある。映画には様々なジャンルがあり、いつもは見ないようなジャンルの映画を見たりすると、自分にはまだまだ知らないことがあることに気づき、思いがけず興味の範囲が広がることがある。また、お話を通して多くの人の感情に触れることで物事を違う視点から捉えられるようになるなど、映画を見るようになってから私の人生は明らかに豊かになったと感じられる。
　二つ目は、語学学習につながるという点である。一般的な方法ではあるが、私も字幕で映画を見て言語学習を試みるうちの一人である。映画を見ていると、登場人物たちの会話を通して、参考書などでは学べない、限りなく日常で使われている英語に近いものを学ぶことができると考える。また、気に入った映画は字幕をなしにして音声だけで理解できるように試みることで、リスニングの力もつくと考える。最近では、映画の原作の本を英語で読むことに挑戦している。原作の本には、映画では描かれなかった場面があったり、同じ話ではあるがまた別のものとして楽しむことができる。
　以上のことより、私は映画にすっかり夢中になっているが、この魅力に気づく以前と比べると、一回りも二回りも成長できた気がする。これからは映画鑑賞を生涯の趣味として、自分の世界をさらに広げていきたいと考える。この場を借りて私と映画を出会わせてくれたクラスメイトに感謝したい。
