英語が好きになった理由

　I have learned a great deal during my three years of taking classes with the Department of English Literature. There are many unique and interesting classes offered. I would like to inform you about three of my favorite classes and what I have learned from them.
　Firstly, through my Academic Writing class, I have developed the ability to write logically in English. However, this did not come easy. There were some tasks that seemed difficult, such as writing an academic essay in English and searching for references in English language texts. But that’s why I was able to experience a sense of accomplishment when I finished writing my essay. This class also helped me to better understand paragraph structure, which has helped in my subsequent courses.
　The second class I would like to discuss is Reading Fiction. We read many interesting stories, but my favorites were the short stories written by an American novelist named O. Henry. I enjoy his works because they are easy to read. This course made me love reading English and American fiction.
　I also took British Film Theory Exercise. I found it interesting because it helped me understand different cultures and learn more about historical issues. During class, we watched British films and worked to understand the underlying themes hidden in the film, such as the state of society at the time, social positions, and political issues. It was not just watching a movie; it involved much deeper analysis.
　There are a wide variety of classes offered by the Department of English Literature. Each one offers a unique opportunity to develop a better understanding of the English language. The courses that I have taken have led to me developing a passion for learning English while also helping me to significantly improve my English skills.

　私は英文学科に所属し、これまで3年間授業を受ける中で、多くのことを学んできました。英文学科独自の興味深い授業がたくさんあります。その中でも今回は、3つの好きな授業を挙げてそれらから学んだことを紹介したいと思います。
　1つ目は、アカデミック?ライティングの授業を経て、英語を論理的に書くスキルを身に付けました。筋道を立てて英語で論ずること、洋書の文献を探すことなど、難しく思える作業もありました。でもだからこそ、1つのエッセイを書き終えたらその達成感を味わうことができました。また、この授業を受けたことで、その後の英語で文章を書くという場面において本当に役立っていると感じます。
　2つ目は、リーディング?フィクションの授業について触れたいです。この授業ではたくさんの英米小説を読みます。特に私はオー?ヘンリーというアメリカ人小説家によって書かれる短編小説が読みやすいため、お気に入りです。この授業によって、私は英米小説を読むことが好きになりました。また同時に、英語の文章の読解力も向上しました。
　3つ目は、イギリス映画論演習を受講し、異文化理解や時代的問題を知る面白さを見出しました。あるイギリス映画を視聴しながら、そこに隠された当時の社会のあり方や社会的立場、政治的な問題などの裏テーマを考察します。ただ映画を視聴するだけでなく、より深く追求していくことが面白い点です。
　英文学科では幅広い授業が展開されています。そのどれもが英語を理解するのに役立つ独自の機会を与えてくれます。中でも、私が受講した授業は英語を学ぶ意欲を高めさせ、英語のあらゆるスキル向上に大いに役立ちました。
